Want to discuss neighbourhood issues? Want to organize your local group online? Want to publicize an event? Want to co-ordinate community action? Want to find out what’s happening in your area?
ACT (Abbeydale Communities Together) have launched this online forum for the Abbeydale area to help you do all these things.
In 2007 a similar site was launched for Harringay, an area in north London. HarringayOnline.com now has over 1,000 members which 100 people using it each day. It’s led a successful campaign against a local betting shops, influenced council policy by identifying residents’ priorities and organized a petition on traffic issues which was the largest ever from the community. Recently the site co-ordinated members to organise the biggest neighbourhood summer fete in living memory.
We’re hoping that Abbeydale Online will has a similar impact in our area. Anyone can join the forum and anyone can set up a group, start a discussion or post an event. An online group can be open to anyone or have a closed membership.
Here are some ways you could use Abbeydale Online:
Will Abbeydale Online deliver all this? It depends on you. It will only work if people use it. And people will only use it if other people are using it. It’s all there ready to go. What it needs is momentum. What it needs is for you to sign up and get involved.
So go to the home page, click ‘sign up’ on the top right-hand side of the page and we’re off.
Once you have signed up go to 'Settings' in the box at the top right-hand side. From there you can change when you get emails notifying you of updates to the site.
